THE
STONESTREET GRANITE AWARDS
FOR FILM ACTING CRAFT |
The
Stonestreet Granite Awards for Film Acting Craft have been
created to recognize superior film acting as viewed by students
and teachers of film acting. They have been called the "Granite"
Awards because one of the beautiful aspects of a film actor's
performance is its permanence, lasting in time for other
generations to enjoy and discover.
The
primary voting population of the Granite Awards are young
students of acting, particularly of film acting as a special
and unique craft to be studied and practiced.
Stonestreet
wishes to recognize brilliant film performances that occur
in motion pictures that do not necessarily carry the hype,
publicity value and box office of the films that are typically
nominated by the Academyof Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
or the Golden Globes. In addition, we believe that students
of film acting, people who are now being trained in the
art and craft of film acting, a craft which is special and
unique, have their own voice and their own opinion, and
that the expression of such opinion can only add to the
variety and richness of film acting discussion and debate.
For
films released in calendar-year 2001, the Granite Awards
no longer made a distinction between leading and supporting
roles. We find the distinction specious or at least strained.
Therefore, for years 2001 and beyond, the Granites will
be awarded to one actor and one actress.
Almost
450 email votes from Stonestreet alumni have been counted
for the 2002 Granites. The following actress and actor have
won the 2002 Granites:
Maggie
Gyllenhaal
in
Secretary
Sam
Rockwell
in
Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind
